WILDFIRES – Grass fire north of East Shuswap Road proving troublesome
A grass fire near the 800 block of East Shuswap Road had reached an estimated 200 acres by 5 p.m. today (July 12, 2018).
Fifty BC Wildfire and 18 Kamloops Fire Rescue personnel were fighting the fire along with air service including one helicopter. More resources were en route.
No structures had been lost but, as a precaution, a half dozen homes on East Shuswap Road east of the Sage Meadows trailer park were evacuated. A reception centre has been established for evacuees at the Sk’elep School of Excellence on the reserve.
East Shuswap Road between Sun Rivers and Lafarge was closed to traffic except for emergency vehicles.
The fire was described as Rank 3, meaning “moderately vigorous.”
Easterly winds pushed smoke towards Kamloops and into the North Thompson Valley, and smoke was highly visible in the area. Water skimming aircraft were using Paul Lake, with recreational boaters asked to stay clear.

Can you imagine if a fire starts near Kenna Cartwright park? With all them construction trades smoking nearby is a real possibility and the park will suffer irreparable damage before the authorities can figure out an appropriate and timely intervention.
That would truly be the end of the world as we know it!
