MISSING – KSAR suspends search at Sun Peaks, RCMP continue investigation
Kamloops Search and Rescue has suspended its participation in the search for 19-year-old Ryan Shtuka at Sun Peaks but RCMP continue to lead the investigation into his disappearance and additional search efforts.
KSAR said today (Feb. 19, 2018) 22 of its members were deployed in the search from 5 a.m. to almost midnight Sunday, which included search dogs, drones, snowmobiles, infrared cameras and helicopters.
Seventy-four volunteers from the community also assisted.
A KSAR post on Facebook said it will be available to help out again if new information becomes available and if RCMP request further assistance.
Shtuka went missing Saturday night after he left a party on Burfield Drive in Sun Peaks to walk home about 2 a.m.. His uncle Kevin Warren said on Facebook today that Shtuka’s family is still optimistic he’ll be found.
He’s described as Caucasion, 5 ft. 10 inches tall, 155 pounds with blonde hair and brown eyes.
RCMP haven’t issued any updates today. Anyone with any information about his whereabouts prior to his disappearance is asked to call police at 250-828-3000.
