CHARBONNEAU – Tax Netflix but no Netflix tax

NETFLIX should be taxed but not as earlier proposed with a so-called “Netflix tax.” That proposal would have seen increased costs to access the internet.

A more properly named “internet tax” would have targeted more than just Netflix. It would have increased costs to access banking, education, commerce, health, social media, and email, and a myriad of services becoming ever more essential to daily life.

Netflix should be taxed, not only because similar Canadian services are taxed but because revenue collected would pay for Canadian content.

This approach has never worked. throwing tax dollars at so called ” Canadian ” content is just a waste of our money. There are a few excellent Canadian produced TV shows out there, but the majority are just junk that never would have seen the light of day had they not been financed by us. If Canadian producers cannot make a show that will stand on its own, then we should not be financing their shoddy workmanship. The same goes for movies. Canadian movies are some of the worst junk ever produced, why should our tax dollars support these moronic productions ?
