POLICE – One man dead, one in hospital after shooting outside residence

One man is dead and another is in hospital after a shooting outside a home in Kamloops tonight (Thursday, Sept. 21, 2017).

Kamloops RCMP responded at 7:20 p.m. to multiple reports of shots being fired on the Hudson’s Bay Trail. When police arrived they found one man dead and another suffering from a non-fatal gunshot wound.

Cpl. Jodie Shelkie.

Cpl. Jodi Shelkie said the shooting took place outside a residence, and that two suspects fled on foot.

“Approximately 10 minutes later a vehicle was reported burning on Oden Court in Sahali.  It is unknown at this time if this vehicle and the shooting are related.”

Shelkie said it is believed this was a targeted shooting as both victims are known to police.  RCMP do not believe there is a threat to the public.

The public was asked to avoid Hudson’s Bay Trail.  Kamloops RCMP Serious Crime Unit, General Duty, Crime Reduction Unit and Police Dog Services were actively investigating in the area and as of 9 p.m. it was still “a fluid situation.”

Shelkie said anyone who witnessed the shooting or has information about the suspects is asked to contact the Kamloops RCMP at 250-828-3000 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8277.
