BY-ELECTION – Several forums lined up for council and mayor candidates

Voters will have several chances to hear and respond to civic by-election candidates over the next week. Here are details on several forums.

Thursday, Sept. 14 at 11:24 a.m., South Kamloops Secondary will hold a forum for councilor candidates in the school library. The event will be moderated by a student.

Nancy Bepple, Kevin Krueger, Stephen Karpuk, Cathy Sinclair, Tracy Schmidt, Leslie Lax, Jim Michals, Jeanne Marr, and Jennifer Adams have committed to attend.

Regrets due to previous obligations have been given by Bill Sarai, Jesse Bochek, Jon Eadie, and Nicholas Adams.

Gerald Watson, Ray Dhaliwal, Ashlee Hudie, Bradley Serl, Caroline King and Sadie Hunter haven’t responded, say the organizers.

The Kamloops and District Labour Council will host an all-candidates forum at Desert Gardens from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Thursday, Sept 14. Eighteen candidates for council and mayor have indicated they will attend and are also seeking the endorsement of the KDLC.

The event will be video-taped and made available at a later date via YouTube and social media. KDLC President Barb Nederpel will moderate the event.

The format will be casual round table discussions.

Candidate Nancy Bepple has arranged a forum on Monday, Sep. 18, 12 noon – 1:30 p.m. at Desert Gardens, 540 Seymour St. Doors open at 11 a.m.

Mel Rothenburger will moderate. Each candidate will have a one-minute introduction, and will be allowed to answer two questions.

Kamloops Media will host a forum Monday, Sept. 18, 6:30 p.m. at the Sagebrush Theatre, Ninth Avenue and Munro Street.

Councillor candidates will have two minutes to address voters between 6:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. and will also have tables in the lobby. The six mayoral candidates will engage in a moderated debate beginning at 7:30 p.m.
