BY-ELECTION – Mayoral candidate Cindy Ross Friedman withdraws from race
Ken Christian appears to have a clear path to the mayor’s chair after Dr. Cindy Ross Friedman withdrew from the Sept. 30 by-election today (Aug. 5, 2017).
Ross Friedman announced that a health-related family issue has arisen suddenly that makes it impossible for her to run. She said she found out about the situation this morning.
The TRU professor had been waging an active social media campaign for the past several weeks and was regarded as the only serious challenger to Christian among the four candidates.
Christian resigned as a City councillor at the end of June to enter the mayor’s race, created by the resignation of Peter Milobar.
Air-ambulance paramedia Todd Mcleod and retiree Reo Rocheleau are now his only competitors. The by-election will also pick two new councillors to replace Christian and Marg Spina. Nominations open Aug. 15.

Hopefully the reasons for her withdrawal will be resolved in time for the fall 2018 election.
The attitudes of hired staff, corroborated by an inept council are getting worse. It is going to cost us more money to maintain current level of service…because the spend-happy “managers” are not making the necessary changes to their approaches.
The City wastes untold amount of taxpayers’ money in the most asinine of ways. Furthermore, the City is a leviathan mostly concerned with self-preservation.

Though never having met Ms. Ross-Friedman, she made a very wise decision. There are more important things in life, outside of politics. One of these should be putting family first. My hat is off to her. That being said, one would hope that Mr. Christian does not feel that he should be complacent by saying nothing during the lead up to the up-coming bye-election. No competition means no need to vote, give us a reason to vote.

I would vote for the mail carrier before I would ever vote for Christian. His actions so far ( silence ) have proven that he feels that people should vote for him because in his mind, he deserves it.

That is bad news indeed. The last thing Kamloops needs is a lack luster candidate like Christian. Hang on to your wallets, taxes are going to explode like the Elephant Hill fire.
