COLLINS – This is the best we can do?

The downtown core badly needs something, and a parking lot isn’t exactly visionary on the part of those in City Hall
LET ME MAKE SURE I understand. After years of deliberation, the best our City planners can come up with for the old Kamloops Daily News building is to tear it down and put up a parking lot?
It’s hardly paradise as it sits now, so my thoughts of Joni Mitchell really don’t apply, but I am totally floored that we are going to solve the problems of the downtown core by not only putting up a parking lot, but a surface parking lot that does little to address the overall problem.

What is the downtown business association and it’s members saying about this building and also about the parking lot plans, why in the first place has the city become involved in this, whatever made them purchase the building in the first place?

Tearing it down and put up a (temporary) parking lot.
Me think the refusal of all presented proposals was because the City, deep down in their visceral love for grandeur, still wants to build a PAC…someday.
Anything but a parking lot would make that possibility lost for good.
And make no mistake, the problems with the downtown have little to do with parking. As a semi-frequent use of the downtown, parking is my smallest of concerns.
