Re: Pipelines, Paris and cross-border politics: U.S. energy policies leave Canadaisn divided over how to respond.
This says, essentially, two important things…:
1) Canadians are self-interested and want what they want, so long as it benefits themselves directly. Alberta is clearly more likely to benefit from the pipeline and surprise, surprise, that’s where the highest level of support is found. The impacts on their children, grandchildren and the world in general don’t enter into their considerations.
2) Canadians don’t have a clue what the Paris Accord is and clearly don’t understand how the pipeline impacts our ability to meet our obligations.
In short, the poll confirms that Canadians want to have their cake and eat it too. Big surprise…

Hi Brock Thank you .I think you are right in general .However I’m not convinced that it matters what Canadians want any more.It seems to me that “Trumpian” politics is holding center stage and until he’s gone we can whistle in the wind.
I hate the cynacism in this message so I would like someone to prove me wrong.

I just wonder what percentage of plastic does the average Tesla contains.
But as far as self-interests goes…the whole of the world is under self-serving interest and the more we have the less content we are.

Whether your Tesla comment is tongue in cheek or not, it’s probably worth mentioning that oil in the form of plastic doesn’t contribute to our carbon problem. The process of getting it TO the form of plastic might (and does), but whether carbon is sequestered underground as oil, or in plastic on the surface doesn’t really matter. *Burning* that plastic would be where it becomes a problem.
