Shooting suspect identified, charged

RCMP cruiserThe identity of the suspect in an early morning shooting incident Thursday was released today (Friday, Feb. 3, 2017).

RCMP say Blake Bernhard of Kamloops was arrested by police and taken into custody a few blocks away from the shooting near 12th Street.

Following the incident, a man was taken to Royal Inland Hospital with a gunshot wound to the leg. Police believe there are no outstanding public safety concerns stemming from this incident.

Blake Bernhard has been charged with breaching conditions of two different firearms related prohibitions and police are requesting that he be held on the charges while investigation into the actual shooting incident continues.

Police ask anyone who witnessed the events in the 1200 Block of Sherbrooke Avenue on the morning of Feb. 2, and have not yet spoken with investigators, to call the Kamloops Detachment at 250-828-3000.
