Armchair Mayor takes a break, but Frootloops council is on the job

On behalf of all the staff at ArmchairMayor.ca (namely, me), we wish you a wonderful Christmas and a successful New Year.

armchairmayor-avatarThe ArmchairMayor will now take a break for the holiday season, in the form of fewer posts over the next couple of weeks. I’ll be filing my usual twice-weekly columns to CFJC Today, which will link through this site, and other items of consequence but things will be somewhat irregular until the first week of January.

Rest assured, however, the Frootloops Council will be on the job as is usual this time of year, assembling for their annual Christmas Eve meeting on Saturday. I’ve lost track of how many annual meetings the hapless Frootloops councillors have held since I first reported on them, but it’s become one of my favourite Christmas traditions. I have a feeling they’ll have plenty to talk about.

Between now and January, I’ll be contemplating the future of ArmchairMayor.ca. Since the closure of NewsKamloops.com, I’ve been carrying on with the opinion components of that site with the renewal of ArmchairMayor.

This site is now more than eight years old, reaching back to my time as editor at The Kamloops Daily News, through the sad closure of that paper, continuing onto NewsKamloops, back to an independent site and now operating in partnership with CFJC Today.

Since switching back to ArmchairMayor in early October, the revenue for the site has been zero. That is, it’s operating on zero donations, largely because I haven’t ask for any, wanting to get a feel for where things are going first.

I do this for fun, not money, and in my spare time, but there are costs, and I’ll have to assess the value of keeping an independent community forum going and, if so, what it will look like. I continue to appreciate the willingness of the contributors who keep on submitting their columns here, and the addition of Doug Collins and James Peters from CFJC is certainly a valuable expansion of the roster.

Anyway, I wish you all the very best for the season, and thanks for reading.

  6. -If Jimmy Pattison was able to pick up ol’ Cooper’s as a grocery store, you’d think he’d be able afford an ol’ cogger like yourself…I mean Glen Clark was a bit of ‘the like of your ilk,’ so to speak, wasn’t he…? Little Glen is now a major VP in the administration of a corporate ‘country’ called Pattison Group…Not…quite…socialism, unless he is part of the British labour Party (unbeknownst to us) whom are part of the socialist arm of the Russian syndicate? You could never tell with Glen; with you Mel: You’re as transparent as wax paper..at least.

So…as for you (somebody go ask Jimmy what he thinks of our Mel)…I mean he sounds so broke herein, or at least a little broken up…! -AND, (Plus): he didn’t even get caught building a deck on the front of his cabin, for cryin’ Out LOUD!) One more for the little gipper, I’d say. (You know: Not quite Reaganism, more like Fruitloopism, all bound up in that hearty laugh of his…(!?). -Oh, sorry, that’s Santa.

Godspeed and Merry Christmas, in the traditional form, to all herein.
