LETTER — Hard to find words to express disappointment

It is difficult to even begin to find the words to tell you what a disappointment you are. I voted for most (not all) of you and I am so sorry now that I did. I feel let down. I would like you to explain how it is that these pesticides are safe and okay to use on commercial properties, city properties, golf courses, and Sun Rivers properties, but they are not safe to be used on my property. How can this be? Is the air different? Is the ground different? What is different? It is unbelievably hypocritical for the city to ban the use on residential properties, yet continue the use on city properties.
We might expect this kind of thinking from someone who also feels we don’t need a museum and should spread the museum artifacts all around town, but the rest of you? I am really surprised. Dennis Walsh – I was so happy when you decided to run for council again, and Dieter Dudy, I felt you would be good for our city. My mistake. Won’t happen again.

On the other hand, I voted for some of them. Not all, but I am more likely to vote for all of them next time around because of their values and their commitment to the health of the people here and the environment.
However, I would not base my voting only on a minor issue like whether or not I can have a perfect lawn. Talk about first world problems! There are so many other important issues to consider when choosing your representatives.

Well said Sally!!! Luckily I didn’t vote for any of them because of their stand against the Kamloops economy.. Their only mind set is a socialistic and environmentalist approach to Kamloops and to hell with anything or anyone else who thinks differently. I guess the only economies they think about are to do with their own businesses. Remember that they are all also against The Ajax Mine which will be a large boom to the Kamloops and area economy, but again they only think of their own agendas… That’s the biggest absurdity of all…

Good letter Sally. Still trying to understand how this will improve the air quality for the citizens of Kamloops. Do they think that the air around the golf courses, vegetable gardens.Sun Rivers etc. stays in those exact spots.

Really Sally,you were surprised by Dennis and Dieter’s votes? You do know one is an organic farmer? Funny thing about politics. Once someone does one thing you disagree with, they just have to go. Politicians cannot please everyone nor can you or I for that matter. But if someone I knew made a decision I didn’t agree with I don’t just write that person off. If you’re lookin for a politician to only do things you agree with you might be looking for a dictator.

Hopefully I can she’d some light on a few answers. From what I read on the live tweets, the city will vote on banning pesticide use on is fields in October as Arjun made the motion to on Tuesday. Maybe Mel can explain why it has to wait until October and couldn’t have been done the same day. According to Milobar, it would br hypocritical for the city not to also ban its use on it’s fields. As for Sun Rivers, it is on TIB land and not subject to city bylaws. Commercial properties and golf courses on the other hand. Couldn’t tell ya.

Pierre, this is a letter that asks excellent questions. How you can find it a showcase in absurdity is beyond me.

Firstly, the city uses very, very little of the harmful “cides” targeted in this new bylaw.
Do you know how much area the “city” has under direct management, from streets to parks? Beside all that, a motion was made to stop even the very little use mentioned above.
Secondly, Sun Rivers is totally beyond Kamloops city council’s jurisdiction.
Thirdly, the tone…
It is fair to ask why this ban wasn’t a sweeping one. Perhaps some legal matters. Regardless, this new bylaw is a good start and this was not a good letter IMHO.

Thanks for the answer Pierre. If the City stops using pesticides it still does not answer why they exempted commercial properties. I would be interested in knowing the reason for this and what kind of legal matters would exempt some from a law and give free reign to do as they please to others. I don’t think that is an absurd question at all.
