Shovels hit the ground for start of 429 St. Paul project

NEWS/ CITY — Shovels hit the ground Monday in Kamloops to signify the official start of construction at 429 St. Paul St. The project will see a new mixed-use building go up at the Kamloops United Church site.

It will include both commercial and residential units, with almost 75 per cent of the apartments set aside as affordable home ownership units for future residents with low to moderate income.

The building will also host Kamloops United Church’s administration space and the church thrift shop. It will be finished by winter 2015.

The provincial government contributed $11.3 million in construction financing, with the church fundraising $2.2 million.

Transportation Minister Todd Stone, Mayor Peter Milobar and Margaret Waldon, chair of the Council Circle of the church, were among those participating in the ground breaking.
