North Thompson still rising, Little Fort and McLure ferries closed because of high water
NEWS — The Little Fort and McLure ferries on the North Thompson River were closed this afternoon (Saturday) because of high water levels.
The North Thompson is under a high streamflow advisory, meaning river levels are rising or expected to rise rapidly but that no major flooding is expected. Minor flooding in low-lying areas is possible.
The B.C. River Forecast Centre said today the North Thompson at McLure has been gradually rising about 1 cm/hour overnight. Flows are expected to continue to rise through the weekend towards a peak on Monday or Tuesday.
As of 1:15 p.m. today the forecast centre put the Clearwater River and Horsefly River on flood watch, a status that means river levels are rising and will approach or may exceed bankfull, meaning the river fills its channel and the level coincides with the bank margins. There may be flooding of areas adjacent to affected rivers.
A high streamflow advisory has been issued for Blue River, which is between a five-year and 10-year flow.
Current weather conditions are mixed with light rain today. Moderate rainfall is forecast for the region over the next 24 ro 48 hours, which may increase water levels.
The forecast centre expects increases to flows through the middle of next week.
The City of Kamloops is also keeping a close eye on water levels in case residents in low areas need sand and sandbags.

That’s an impressive picture of the Little Fort Ferry, an eerie piece out of time. I’ve been watching the river rising, filling up, and surging down it’s path. Looking at the mass of water moving and thinking of the Overlanders rafting down it. A awesome sight….ss

If ever there is a case for government intervention, This story is one of them. I believe that it’s time for these two ferries to be replaced by, at the very least, two lane bridges. If they can do it for the crossing at Langley between the TCH and the Lougheed Hwy. I believe that more people would use a bridge instead of a “Drive on drive off ferry.” I’d go a step further and suggest that people wouldn’d object to a small electronic toll fee of, say $2.00 each way. Sure would save on the driving.
