If Stuart Wood elementary is closed, how will speed limit on Columbia Street be handled?

LETTER — An open letter to Kamloops City Council and School District #73 School Board regarding the closure of Stuart Wood School.

LetterLThere are many reasons why I support keeping Stuart Wood open. However, I am presenting a question that I would appreciate your discussing and replying to me with the answer and reasons for such a response.

If Stuart Wood is to close there consequently would be a number of children walking alongside Columbia Street. Considering that 3rd Avenue has a 30 km speed limit to help insure the students’ safety, how will the speed limit be dealt with on Columbia Street?

Despite controlled crosswalks, walking next to a road with 50 and 60 km speed limits, is somewhat unnerving. Add to the mix is an ever increasing traffic volume, speed violators, and inattentive drivers.

Thanking you for your response.

Columbia Street is unfortunately and shamefully a 80 to 100 km/hour stretch of road with zero enforcement on it.
If Stuart Wood would to close, the school board will provide a shuttle bus from Stuart Wood to Beattie school of the arts.
It will not be a matter of discussion, it will happen.
