FEATURED COMMENT – A simple FOI process has been completely botched

It is unbelievable that just about everyone involved with this debacle has taken a very simple process under freedom of information legislation and botched it so completely.
The records get sent to the person responsible in the City’s administration for processing within the timelines established by law and policy. Redact according to the rules. Someone signs off, then send records to applicant. Not difficult, just technical and sometimes time consuming. I’m sure there is a policy with written instructions for every step.
But somehow after months of dithering, delay, and apparent non-compliance (and getting the regulator OIPC involved), there is now an allegation that very private personal information was disclosed when the records were sent directly to the reporter FOI applicant. The case is not quite closed.
Meanwhile, the public continues to get metaphorically kicked in the head by the “horseshoe” given all the time, costs, distractions and diversions.
