Kamloops RCMP  and Tk’emlúps Rural Detachment are urging the public today (March 9, 2026) to only travel if absolutely necessary as roadways, specifically, the surrounding highways which are extremely icy. If travel is essential take extra caution and check road conditions and travel routes before you leave.

“The Coquihalla is now open following a closure due to a jack-knifed semi truck,” said Staff Sgt. Del Byron, in charge of the Tk’emlúps Rural Detachment.  “Transport trucks are still backed up on the highway leaving Kamloops.”

Tips for road and travel safety

  • Check road conditions before leaving
  • Clear snow, ice and dirt from vehicle including lights
  • Share your travel plans and routes with someone you trust
  • Keep an emergency kit in the vehicle.
