POLICE – Neighbour stabbed after trying to stop fight next door

A Kamloops man was in custody today after a Good Samaritan was stabbed.

Just before 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2026, Kamloops RCMP were called to a home in the 1800-block of Parkcrest Avenue for a report of an assault with a weapon.

A 27-year-old man had gotten into a physical altercation with a family member. A neighbour, who is known to both, heard the disturbance and attempted to intervene, at which point he was stabbed.

“The suspect retreated to a trailer on the property and barricaded himself inside,” said RCMP Staff Sgt. Janelle Shoihet. “Following a short negotiation, the suspect surrendered to police and was taken into custody.”

The suspect was expected to appear in the Kamloops Provincial court later today.

The victim, a 55-year-old man, was taken to hospital for treatment of serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Anyone with information who has not already spoken with police,is asked to contact the Kamloops RCMP Detachment at 250-828-3000 and cite file 2026-5751.
