CITY – Community input on Hillside Road network at ‘listening’ session

The City is inviting Southwest Sector residents to participate in an upcoming neighbourhood “listening” session focused on the Hillside Drive and Copperhead Drive road networks.

The session will take place on Saturday, Feb. 21, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Dufferin elementary school gymnasium. City staff will be on hand for an informal, drop-in opportunity for residents to share feedback, discuss travel experiences, and highlight local concerns.

For those unable to attend, an online mapping tool is available at LetsTalk.Kamloops.ca/HillsideCorridor until Thursday, Feb. 26, 2026, where residents can pinpoint challenges and areas of improvement directly on a digital map.

“This session is part of early conceptual transportation design work in the area and is intended to gather local insight before any firm decisions are made,” said Purvez Irani, the City’s Transportation Manager.

“City staff are seeking feedback on current travel experiences, safety concerns, and opportunities to improve traffic flow for all road users.”

Conceptual improvements under consideration include upgrades to the curvature along Hillside Drive, frontage improvements along Hillside Drive, and intersection capacity upgrades.

A multi-use pathway and transit stop are also being considered along Hillside Drive as part of the upgrades project. Together, these improvements aim to address long-term transportation needs and support future growth in the area.

This phase of engagement will help the project team evaluate options and better understand community priorities, says the City. No final decisions or construction timelines have been established, and community input will “play a key role in shaping potential corridor enhancements.”

The multi-sheet Build Kamloops arena project—expected to be completed by 2029 and identified as a community need in the 2019 Recreation Master Plan—is part of the future development slated for this area.

The same guy that was supposed to be listening in regard to the fabled ( and unnecessary expensive) multi-use path at 6th Avenue? Or the dangerous intersection at Hugh Allan Drive and Pacific Way? The solution would be to re-direct the multiplex traffic onto the highway and close off Hillside Drive at Dufferin elementary.
