The new water treatment plant in Pritchard north is nearing completion and should be ready for commissioning in March, says the Thompson Nicola Regional District in a social media post.
Treated water supply for 500 customers is expected to begin later in the spring after years of problems with water quality advisories and boil water orders. The new plant will use a membrane filtration system to provide a consistently pure supply. The membrane technology is effective at removing parasites like giardia and crypto, as well as turbidity, from water.
The new water treatment plant will be fully grant funded with no tax impact to residents. An infrastructure grant for of $2,969,695 federal and $1,979,796 provincial was approved in 2020, the first time such a grant covers 100 per cent of the cost.
