A traffic stop has led to the arrest of a man suspected of impersonating police.
On Jan. 29, 2026, at about 11 p.m., the Kamloops RCMP Crime Reduction Unit conducted a traffic stop and learned that the driver was prohibited from driving. Further into the investigation police located body armour that included non RCMP ‘Police’ and ‘RCMP’ lettering, police say. The vehicle involved was a white GMC truck, and was equipped with red and blue lights, along with a siren.
“Impersonating police is a criminal offence whether it be by false representation, badge, article, uniform or equipment which can pose a significant risk to both public and police safety,” said Sgt. Jason Pole, in charge of the Kamloops RCMP Detachment Crime Reduction Unit.
Weapons, body armour and the vehicle have been seized pending further investigation. A man in his 40s has since been released with charge recommendations anticipated.
RCMP reminded the public that police will produce proper police identification if you are unsure about the legitimacy of their interactions.
The Kamloops RCMP Detachment is asking anyone that may have had an encounter with a man with a white GMC truck wearing partial police attire to contact the Kamloops RCMP at 250-828-3000 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) and cite file 2026-3010.
