The experience at the Riverside Park skating loop will go up a notch on Wednesday (Feb. 3, 2026) with the addition of rentals.
Okanagan Affordable Rentals will be onside Wednesday through Sunday, weather permitting (it’s supposed to warm up), from 10 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. with skate rentals, sharpening, hot drinks and popcorn “all conveniently located next to the rink loop and fire pits (for the perfect apres-skate vibe).”
Skate rentals will be $10, sharpening $10 (30 per cent off if you follow them on Instagram or Facebook), helmets $5.
As I mentioned before, if global warming is true, then why was a $7 million grant used to build an outdoor skating rink? The ice surface may not be usable during the warm spell that is forecast for this week.
Point of Order: Can the rink be named with a reference to 6th Avenue?
Secondly, I’m not an arborist nor have I been to the Park to see the rink but looking at the photo, I tend to agree with Pierre about the rink being so close to large mature trees. Has damage to their root system taken place?
