City Delivers $327 Million in Community Infrastructure on Budget and Built for the Future

Kamloops, BC—Over the past two years, the City’s Infrastructure Delivery Division has delivered approximately $327 million in capital construction across 63 projects, strengthening Kamloops’ infrastructure to keep the community safe, connected, and vibrant.

Nearly all projects were completed on time and within approved budgets, with overall spending 5% below budget. These results reflect careful planning, strong oversight, and a commitment to making the most of every public dollar.

Some notable projects delivered during this time include the following:

• Tranquille Gateway Improvements Project/Fulton Field Park (home of the Capt. Jenn Casey Memorial)
• City Centre Upgrades Project
• Overlanders Bridge Maintenance Project
• Albert McGowan Park Upgrades
• Pacific Way/Highway 1 Left Turn Project
• Columbia Street and Westsyde Road Paving Projects

“Behind every road improvement, park upgrade, or utility project is a focus on quality and long-term value for our community,” said Matt Kachel, the City’s Infrastructure Delivery Divisional Manager. “As Kamloops grows, we’re building infrastructure that residents can rely on.”

Municipal infrastructure spans an extensive range of assets, from roadways and utility corridors to parks, civic buildings, and recreation facilities, including the visionary Build Kamloops program. Each project is designed to be durable and safe, ensuring it is built to last. By focusing on high-quality construction from the start, the City reduces future maintenance needs and protects essential services for years to come.

As the City grows, maintaining a balance between cost efficiency, quality standards, and project timelines is essential to ensure infrastructure assets meet residents’ evolving needs and contribute meaningfully to the City’s mission of fostering a resilient, inclusive, and healthy environment.

Kamloops’ approach to infrastructure delivery is also gaining attention beyond the community. The City has been selected to help lead updates to the Master Municipal Construction Documents, which set construction standards for municipalities across British Columbia—recognition of Kamloops’ leadership and expertise in project delivery. The appointment was made through nominations by industry professionals and fellow municipalities.

As Kamloops looks ahead, the Infrastructure Delivery Division remains focused on adaptive planning, proactive risk management, and continuous improvement. By balancing fiscal responsibility with innovation, sustainability, and collaboration, the City is dedicated to building infrastructure that serves today’s residents while creating lasting value—because planning for growth starts with building it right.
