FEATURED COMMENT – It’s not up to U.S. to decide who runs a country

The US has a long history of exchanging one bad leader for another. It has never worked out better for the people of the country.

It isn’t the United State’s place to decide who runs another country. That is colonialism at its worst. Besides they aren’t interested in democracy, or good for the people, they are interested in profit.

If you look at history, every interference in other countries’ affairs has been about profit. Mostly about oil, but occasionally gold or other minerals. If the US government cared about people, they’d be running their own country in a way that demonstrated that.

The reason so many of the ‘third world’ democracies are in trouble isn’t that the people are bad, it is that we’ve destroyed the systems they had to rule themselves and replaced them with our own forms of democracy. It didn’t help that we carved up land in ways that suited us colonizers, but paid no attention to the boundaries that already existed.

This notion that western democracy is the salvation of the world is arrogant nonsense. Every time we muddle in other countries’ affairs we only make things worse. We need to stop.

If we really want to strengthen growing democracies, we can forgive colonial debts and refuse to do business with those who are lining their pockets. Also rein in corporations who are savaging ‘third world’ countries in search of profit.<

  1. United States, Canada and Australia are the biggest and worst examples of the longest running , ongoing exploitation and domination of Indigenous Peoples. These three countries were also the last and most reluctant of our 160 countries to sign onto UNDRIP (United Nations Declaration of the Right of Indigenous Peoples. Yet not giving UNDRIP the priority it should have.

it seems it is never about democracy (USA style). It about money in this case it is about the oil reserves in this South American country. And, it is not veiled, Trumpf has made it very clear it is about the oil.
