A report of a gun at the school led to a lockdown at NorKam Secondary this afternoon (Nov. 6, 2025).
Police were called just before 2 p.m. about someone in the school with a gun, which prompted the lockdown of NorKam and surrounding schools. RCMP officers and Police Dog Services responded to the scene.
The lockdown at the other schools was cancelled at about 3:20 p.m. but a hold and secure continued at NorKam while students were united with parents and arrangements were made to get them home.
“Out of an abundance of caution the nearby schools were kept on a hold and secure until police could gather more information related to the call,” said RCMP Cpl. Dana Napier.
“We are working with our School District 73 partners throughout this incident.”
She thanked the public for its cooperation and patience.
She said the investigation continues and anyone with information is asked to call the Kamloops RCMP at 250-828-3000 and city file 2025-37145.
At this writing, School District 73 hasn’t issued a statement.
UPDATE: NorKam released this statement on its website later in the day:
Dear parents and guardians,
Out of an abundance of caution, the RCMP initiated a lockdown at NorKam Secondary School this afternoon in response to a report of a person with a weapon in the school. The RCMP conducted a thorough search of the school, after which the lockdown ended and students were released.
As this kind of event can be upsetting for students, additional counselling supports will be available tomorrow for any students wishing to speak with a counsellor.
Thank you for your patience and understanding.
Sincerely,
Rachael Sdoutz, Principal
