TNRD – Evacuation alert issued as Fadear Lake dam at risk of failure

An evacuation alert has been issued by the Thompson-Nicola Regional District, effective Oct. 6, 2025 at 5:30 p.m., due to what it calls the potential imminent failure of the Fadear Lake dam.

“The provincial Ministry of Water, Lands, and Resource Stewardship (WLRS) has advised the TNRD that an unauthorized dam structure on Fadear Lake is at risk of imminent failure, which could result in an uncontrolled release of water from the lake into Fadear Creek.

“Based on the estimated volume of water, the Province has recommended that an evacuation alert be implemented for properties immediately downstream of the lake to where Fadear Creek drains in to Louis Creek.”

The evacuation alert is now in effect for about 14 addressed properties in Electoral Area “O” (Lower North Thompson).

Impacted areas are as follows:

• All addressed properties along Fadaer Creek Road and adjacent areas; and
• as outlined on the attached map.

The alert is in place to prepare those affected to evacuate their premises or property should it be found necessary. Residents will be given as much advance notice as possible prior to an evacuation order; however, may receive limited notice due to changing conditions, said the TNRD.

What You Should Do:

• Locate all family members and designate a meeting area outside the evacuation area, should an Evacuation Order be issued while separated.
• Pack essential items for quick departure, such as government-issued ID, medications, eyeglasses, valuable papers (e.g. insurance, credit, and mortgage information), and immediate care needs for dependents or pets. Pack keepsakes if time permits.
• Arrange to stay with family or friends (if possible).
• Prepare to move disabled persons, children and/ or neighbours, if assistance is needed.
• Prepare to take pets with you and move large animals and livestock to a safe area (if possible).
• If you are a livestock producer, ensure that you have your Premise ID in the event that you require support if an Evacuation Order is issued.
• Arrange transportation for all your household members. Fill the gas tanks of personal vehicles to be used in case of an Evacuation Order.
