Kamloops RCMP are looking for a missing black and grey backpack in connection with an assault last weekend that put a Kamloops man in hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The assault took place last Saturday, Sept. 27, 2025 late in the afternoon in the 700-blocl of Notre Dame Drive.

Police said today (Oct. 2, 2025) that the backpack was likely discarded somewhere in the Sahali, North Shore or downtown area of Kamloops; possibly near a wooded or shoreline area between the Merit Place Shelter and the 200-block of Tranquille Road.

Based on the severity of the incident, the investigation is being conducted by the Kamloops RCMP Serious Crime Unit.  “This incident was a senseless attack,” said Cpl. Dave Marshall, supervisor for the Kamloops RCMP SCU.

“The victim is known to be a kind and generous person who is described as helpful to other residents at the Merit Place Shelter. “

A suspect has been identified, arrested and remains in custody.  RCMP offered no further details on the investigation.

Anyone who observed or picked up the backpack shown in the photo is asked to contact the Kamloops RCMP at 250-828-3000 and cite file 2025-32253.
