WARD STAMER MLA REPORT – Fall 2025

I enjoyed a busy summer with work as a member of the Special Committee on Democratic and Electoral Reform, along with multiple meetings and community engagements throughout the riding, from Clearwater to Chase.

I also attended the Union of BC Municipalities (UBCM) conference, which took place in Victoria during the week of September 22nd. While there I met and heard the concerns of community leaders from through-out the Kamloops – North Thompson area. I also met with several government ministers, and interest groups, on a number of issues, and participated in a press conference with North Island Mayors, and higher elected officials, to highlight the negative impacts of mill closures on the economy of Vancouver Island.

Looking back to the Spring Session of the legislature, my fellow colleague Jody Toor (Langley-Willowbrook) was successful in having her Private Members Bill successfully passed. Bill M204, regarding Perinatal and Postnatal Health, was the first private member’s bill to pass in 43 years.

Committee meetings along with meetings of our Conservative Caucus are underway as we prepare for the Fall Session of the legislature, which is scheduled to begin on October 6th.  My own bill is not yet finalized, but I look forward to sharing details once it is submitted in the first month of the Fall session.

In the meantime, many storm clouds are on the horizon: rotating strikes are occurring across the province as public-sector contract negotiations continue, the tariff dispute with the United States remains unresolved, and the forest industry, which impacts a large number of residents through-out our riding, is near collapse.

Of equal concern is our provincial deficit.

This past Spring the government projected this year’s budget deficit was projected to be $10.9 billion. As if that wasn’t bad enough, it has now ballooned to an astronomical $11.6 billion!

On the leadership front, our party leader John Rustad was approved to continue in his role by a large majority of our members.  I would also like to take this opportunity to congratulate the new leader of the Green Party of BC, Emily Lowen.

Now that the kids are back in school, our focus will be on constituency business.

My Constituency Assistants, Suzy Lampman and Nicholas Hamson, have been working hard to respond to your questions, concerns, and requests for assistance on issues such as health care, housing, affordability, and crime. As always, my office and I are only a call or email away, and we will do our best to assist you promptly.  You can reach our office by calling 250.554.5416, or by email at Ward.Stamer.MLA@leg.bc.ca.

In conclusion, I would like to take this opportunity to “Thank You” for your support, during my first year as your Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA), and I look forward to connecting with many of you in the coming months.

Cheers,

Ward Stamer,
MLA for Kamloops – North Thompson
Official Opposition Critic for Forests
