REID ALL ABOUT IT – Family reveals stress caused by accusations
An occasional update on the mayoral life of Reid Hamer-Jackson, including what the media are saying:
Last week, of course, was dominated by news reporting of court proceedings in the mayor’s defamation suit against Coun. Katie Neustaeter for comments she made about “personal boundaries,” primarily in a March 17, 2023 press conference at which she spoke on behalf of councillors.
Neustaeter is attempting to have the lawsuit thrown out under the Protection of Public Participation Act. At the conclusion of arguments Friday, B.C. Supreme Court Justice Jacqueline Hughes reserved her decision.
This morning (Sept. 29, 2025), Michael Postestio of Castanet has posted further details (‘News nuggets from court last week’), including affidavits from Hamer-Jackson’s wife and daughter about the stress they allege has been caused by statements made by Neustaeter.
Mrs. Hamer-Jackson says the situation has been so stressful that she has, at times, wanted to leave Kamloops, while one of his daughters says the allegations against her father have taken a toll on her mental health and she has stopped using her last name.
The affidavits were filed too late to be considered in the case but they offer a fascinating insight into the effects of the controversy between Neustaeter and the mayor. Hamer-Jackson is so consistently cheerful in his demeanor that one would think it’s all water off a duck’s back but clearly he, and his family, feel the pressure.
