POLICE – Public warning issued following two sex crime investigations

Kamloops RCMP are issuing a public warning following two concerning incidents currently under investigation.

Between early July and August 2025, the Sex Crimes Unit and General Investigation Support Team began investigating two third-party reports involving vulnerable women who may have been targeted for sexual assault.

“In both cases police are actively working to gather further evidence to advance the investigations and identify the person responsible,” said Cpl. Dana Napier said today (Aug. 19, 2025).  “As the investigation progresses, police are concerned that other individuals may have had negative experiences with the perpetrator, or may have been victimized, but have not yet come forward.”

Kamloops RCMP have made significant increases to the dedicated Sex Crimes Unit that specializes in investigating sexual offences using a trauma-informed approach and providing access to victim services support, police said.

“In both these instances, women who tend to lead more vulnerable lifestyle appear to have been the intended targets of these attacks,” said Cpl. Joe Bayda, NCO in charge of the General Investigation Support Team.

“We are committed to ensuring their safety and encouraging others who may have been affected to come forward.”

Anyone who has experienced sexual violence or knows someone who needs support, can call the Kamloops Sexual Assault Counselling Centre Crisis line, which is available 24/7 at 1-888-974-7278.

If you have information related to these investigations, contact the Kamloops RCMP at 250-828-3000.
