POLICE – Body of missing TRU student recovered from Thompson River

The body of a 27-year-old Thompson Rivers University international student who was pulled into the current of the Thompson River more than a week ago was recovered today (July 15, 2025).

Late in the afternoon of Sunday, July 6, 2025, several friends were playing volleyball on the beach near Overlanders Bridge when the ball apparently went into the water. In efforts to retrieve it, one of them was caught in the undercurrent and went under. Two others managed to make it back to shore.

Kamloops RCMP,  Search and Rescue, the RCMP Under Recovery Water Team, Kamloops RCMP Marine operators and RCMP Air Services all began searching for the missing man.

“On Tuesday, July 15, 2025, the man’s body was retrieved from the river near McArthur Island,” said RCMP Sgt. Chris Kienzle.

“We hope that his discovery can bring a small amount of closure for his family and friends.”

The man’s family in India has been notified but his name was not released.
