POLICE – Patrons cautioned as drink tampering suspected in downtown bars

Police are investigating reports of suspected drink tampering that occurred between June 24 and June 28, 2025, at licensed establishments in the downtown business area.
As many as four individuals including both male and female patrons and employees have reported symptoms consistent with being drugged after consuming beverages, RCMP said today (July 8, 2025). One victim reported meeting an unknown man shortly before experiencing reduced cognitive alertness and noticing an unusual taste in their drink.
“The Kamloops RCMP has obtained surveillance footage and is actively working to identify additional victims and any persons of interest. Investigators are also in the process of speaking with witnesses and reviewing further evidence,” said RCMP Cpl. Dana Napier.
She said that while no subsequent offences have been reported following the administration of the suspected substances, the public is reminded to take the following precautions when consuming alcohol or other beverages in public settings:
- Never leave drinks unattended
- Do not accept drinks from strangers
- Stay with trusted friends and look out for one another
- Seek immediate medical attention if you suspect you’ve been drugged
- Report any suspicious activity to police
Anyone who believes they may have been affected, or who has information related to these incidents, is asked to contact the Kamloops RCMP at 250-828-3000 and reference file number 2025-21075.
