The City of Kamloops has contracted River Valley Construction Services Ltd. to undertake essential rehabilitation work on the Overlanders Bridge and its adjacent eastern multi-use pathway.

The City said today (June 23, 2025) said today the will run from summer through to fall, and will address deteriorating surface conditions that are beginning to affect the safety of both the bridge deck and the pathway.

The scope of work will include:

  • removing and replacing concrete and asphalt through milling at select bridge joint locations (note: this is not a full resurfacing project)
  • applying a sand-textured epoxy coating to the eastern multi-use pathway to improve surface safety and durability

While full traffic details are still being finalized, the following is known at this time:

  • The project will require various lane closures as work is done on various phases of the project. During all phases, a minimum of two lanes will remain open to accommodate single-lane, two-way traffic to help minimize disruption.
  • The multi-use pathway work will take place concurrently with the bridge work. During this time, the pathway will be fully closed.
    • Cyclists and pedestrians should use the designated detour route and follow all posted signage.
    • Dates of the multi-use pathway closure will be provided once the contractor has finalized the details.
  • Motorists should expect delays and are encouraged to plan ahead, allow extra travel time, and consider alternate routes whenever possible.

Further details, including specific construction schedules, detour routes, and updates on lane changes, will be provided in the coming weeks.

“We thank all Kamloops residents and visitors for their patience and understanding as we invest in this critical infrastructure upgrade to ensure long-term safety and functionality for all users,” said Wayne Lockhart, the City’s Civic Construction Manager.

  1. What is with this stupid city and the poor state of the roads? In no time at all, a fresh road resurface develops bobsled ruts. This does not happen in surrounding communities. Look at Seymour St. There are literal asphalt waves pressed into it.

  2. River City Construction Services? Never seen them around before. This city’s management never ceases to surprise me, seldom in a positive way. Hopefully we get some value this time around…
