ELECTION 25 – ‘Cheat sheet’ to test candidates on federal issues

Transition Kamloops will launch what it calls a Candidate Cheat Sheet ahead of the upcoming federal election.
The lobby group said today (April 9, 2025) the guide will provide residents in Kamloops–Thompson–Nicola and Kamloops–Shuswap–Central Rockies with a “clear, accessible summary of where federal candidates stand on housing, food security, Indigenous sovereignty, climate policy, and more.”
The questions for the 2025 Candidate Cheat Sheet were developed in collaboration with 10 allied community organizations in both ridings, prioritizing values of equity, justice, and environmental health, Transition Kamloops said.
While some partner groups will circulate the candidates’ responses without additional analysis, Transition Kamloops’ will produce a Green Light / Red Flag Edition using a visual system:
Green Light – Strong alignment with values of equity, justice, and environmental health
Yellow – Mixed or unclear response
Red Flag – Misalignment or lack of support
No Response – Candidate did not respond to the survey
Candidate responses, public statements, and past voting records will be considered.
The Cheat Sheet will be published on the Transition Kamloops website just before advance polls open. An updated version may be released closer to Election Day if new information becomes available.
“The written responses will be sorted by riding and available for folks to review whenever it suits them before they vote,” said Elwira Rosiak, the project lead.
“We did the same type of thing for the 2022 municipal election in Kamloops, and it was very well received. It became the most-clicked post on our website.”
Voters are also encouraged to participate in the Chamber of Commerce and local media virtual all-candidates event, happening Tuesday, April 22 at 6 p.m. on Castanet Kamloops, where they can submit and upvote questions.
