DROUGHT IS AN increasingly pressing issue for Kamloops. With rising concerns about water shortages, wildfires, and the shrinking of rivers and lakes, it’s essential to understand how residents perceive and respond to these challenges.
Brennen Lockwood, a fourth-year Economics and Political Science student at Thompson Rivers University, is conducting a survey to explore community awareness of drought conditions, attitudes toward water conservation, and responses to water use policies.
His research will help inform local policy decisions and contribute to a broader understanding of how Kamloops residents can adapt to a future where droughts are more frequent and severe.
Kamloops has one of the highest per capita water consumption rates in British Columbia. While the city implements water restrictions during drought periods, questions remain about whether current policies effectively encourage conservation and what additional measures might be needed. This survey aims to address these concerns by gathering community input on:
- Awareness of drought conditions in Kamloops
- Current water conservation efforts by residents
- Effectiveness of water pricing and restrictions
- Potential new policies and incentives to promote conservation
Your input is valuable. The findings will not only shape Brennen’s research but could also help policymakers and community leaders make informed decisions about managing our water resources. The survey results will be included in a final report, potentially published in an academic journal or book, with general statistics and patterns made publicly available.
Your voice can help guide Kamloops toward a more sustainable water future. Please take a few minutes to complete the survey here: https://www.surveymonkey.ca/r/CPSB2T2
