POLICE – Stolen taxi recovered after suspect abandons it on Dominion Street

Kamloops police are investigating after they found a stolen cab and took a suspect into custody early today (March 4, 2025).

Just before 5 a.m., RCMP responded to Battle Street, where a Toyota Corolla taxi that had been reported as stolen out of Hope, was in transit.

“Police officers attempted a traffic stop of the vehicle on 8th Street, but it allegedly failed to comply and continued southbound,” said Cpl. Crystal Evelyn. “The taxi was located abandoned soon after on Dominion Street.”

The Police Dog Service Unit searched the area for a suspect, but no one was located. The vehicle was seized by officers for examination by the Forensic Identification Service Unit.

Frontline officers took one man into custody later in the morning, as part of the ongoing investigation. Charge recommendations are anticipated.

Anyone who witnessed or has security or dash camera footage that may be related to this occurrence, is asked to contact the Kamloops RCMP Detachment at 250-828-3000 and reference file 2025-6074.
