POLICE – Man charged and sentenced after investigation at residence

A Kamloops man who failed to comply with his release conditions was sentenced to almost two years in jail following his arrest last week.

On Feb. 19, 2025, members of the Kamloops RCMP Sex Crimes Unit and General Investigations Support Team executed a search warrant at a residence on the 1400-block of Halston Avenue, as part of an investigation.

“During that investigation, police officers located electronic devices that were capable of accessing the internet, in contradiction to the terms of the probation order he was bound by as a result of his previous conviction related to the possession of child sexual abuse material,” said Cpl. Crystal Evelyn.

Stephen Timothy Bittner, age 23, of Kamloops, was held for a bail hearing, and soon after pleaded guilty to two counts of failure to comply with a probation order.  He also admitted that he possessed child-sex abuse material, contrary to S. 163.1 (4).

As a result of the breaches and that admission, on Feb. 21, 2025, he received a jail sentence of two years less a day, plus three years probation.
