CITY – Second left-hand turn lane planned for westbound Pacific Way exit

A second westbound left-turn lane will be added to the Highway 1 off-ramp at Pacific Way, Exit 367.

The project will be undertaken by the City and the Ministry of Transportation and Transit. It will increase intersection capacity and improve safety by lessening traffic queue backup onto Highway 1.

Construction will begin March 15, 2025 during School District 73’s spring break schedule when traffic activity tends to decrease. Expected completion is the end of June.

Residents can learn more at an information booth at the centre court in Aberdeen Mall from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 22. A project team will be on hand with design drawings.

The City said today there will be considerable impacts on residents, businesses, commuters, and visitors along the Pacific Way (Exit 367) corridor, especially when the off-ramp is fully closed for four to six weeks during the project. A closure timeline will be available as the project start date approaches.

“Given the significant volumes of commuter traffic in the area, a specific detour route is not being suggested. Instead, signage will be posted to guide commuters and visitors in finding the most direct and appropriate route to their destination.”

Following the full off-ramp closure and until the end of the project, the ramp will partially reopen with some restricted movements as the construction crew moves through the project.

The project was identified in 2015 as part of the traffic impact assessment study submitted for relocating the former Lake City Casino at 540 Victoria Street to its current location of Cascades Casino at 1555 Versatile Drive.

At that time, a second left-turn lane on the westbound off-ramp was determined as a necessary improvement to accommodate future increased traffic volumes.

  1. The City and its planning department has created a large bottleneck in that area. The double lane will unlikely solve it.
