Re: EDITORIAL – Shed no tears for Buffy Sainte-Marie over her fall from grace

Buffy isn’t the first to adopt a first nations identity.  Below has been borrowed from Wikipedia. (Worth a read.)

“Archibald Stansfeld Belaney (September 18, 1888 – April 13, 1938), commonly known as Grey Owl, was a popular writer, public speaker and conservationist. Born an Englishman, in the latter years of his life he passed as half-Indian, claiming he was the son of a Scottish man and an Apache woman. With books, articles and public appearances promoting wilderness conservation, he achieved fame in the 1930s. Shortly after his death in 1938, his real identity as the Englishman Archie Belaney was exposed.

Unlike CBS the North Bay Nugget, sat on the story for three years.  And the First Nations peoples also knew Grey Owl wasn’t what he proclaimed to be. Why did they sit on it, because of good work Grey Owl was doing behalf of the First Nation peoples and his conservation efforts.

And what was gained by blowing the whistle on Buffy.  Maybe Buffy should have been just left alone continue her work.
