POLICE – Fraudsters impersonate RCMP online with ‘documents’ scam

Kamloops RCMP are reminding the public to be mindful of online fraudsters, following recent reports indicating an uptick in scam attempts.

On Jan. 23 and 24, 2025 the Kamloops RCMP Detachment and Tk’emlúps Rural Detachment received several calls from residents reporting they had received a text message from RCMP falsely stating that they were unable to deliver court documents, with a  link is provided for victims to click on to reschedule.

The message includes the RCMP and Government of Canada logo.

“Anyone receiving text messages or emails with a delivery notice to reschedule the delivery of documents is asked to contact the RCMP themselves to verify the validity of the message and to not clink on the link provided,” stated Cpl. Dana of the Kamloops RCMP.

“These texts can appear very legitimate, however, the Kamloops RCMP are reminding residents to be suspicious of text messages or emails of this nature.

“If you think you or someone you know has been a victim of fraud, contact the  Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre at 1-888-495-8501  antifraudcentre-centreantifraude.ca  or your local police department.”
