The Thompson-Nicola Regional District (TNRD) is extending its sincere condolences following the passing of Al Raine, who served for 14 years on the TNRD Board of Directors as mayor of Sun Peaks Mountain Resort Municipality.

Al is remembered fondly for his exemplary work as a community builder and leader in Sun Peaks, where he served as the first and only mayor to date following the municipality’s incorporation in 2010. Al’s leadership and vision helped create what are now world-class ski destinations in Whistler and Sun Peaks. His significant contributions to skiing in Canada and development of the sport have spanned more than a half-century.

As an elected official serving on the TNRD Board between 2010 and 2024, Al served as a thoughtful and knowledgeable leader for his constituents, and he was a friend and mentor to many colleagues on the Board of Directors. His positive contributions to his community have had a broad and lasting benefit to the entire Thompson-Nicola region.

The TNRD sends its condolences to Al’s wife, Nancy Greene Raine, their family, friends, and colleagues.

As directed by the Chair of the TNRD, flags outside the TNRD Civic Building will be lowered to half-mast in recognition of Al’s passing.

SCOTT HILDEBRANDT,
Chief Administrative Officer, TNRD
