CITY HALL – Sarai to address special meeting of City council set for Tuesday

Coun, Bill Sarai will address a special meeting of Kamloops City council tomorrow, Tuesday, Dec. 3.

Sarai has been under fire over an audio recording he taped during a heated conversation with Kamloops Mayor Reid Hamer-Jackson in the mayor’s office in January 2023. The existence of the recording wasn’t revealed until recently, and its full contents were obtained in an FOI application by InfoNews last week.

The result has been a flurry of demands for his resignation, with a change.org petition now reaching close to 900 signatures.

An “address of Coun. Bill Sarai” is the main topic for the meeting, which begins at 2 p.m. in City council chambers. The other item is the question of who will serve as deputy mayor for December. Sarai had been scheduled for that.

The meeting was requested by councillors Kelly Hall and Dale Bass.

  1. Councillor Sarai, does not get a pass on this because of the claims against the mayor. He wasn’t driven by some unknown forces. He deliberately set out to deceive and injury another’s persons reputation. The Mayor din’t cause him to edit the recording , the mayor didn’t force him to use the recording to further embarrass and cause the mayor harm. This was a deceitful act by an angry little man who thought he could get away with it. An apology is not good enough. If he has any moral conviction and humility He needs to resign. If he doesn’t, council should be asking for his resignation.

    • Well said; a great post and a great message.

Let’s hope he resigns today and that will allow someone new to be elected in a by-election. Perhaps we’ll see one or more of the Mayor’s motions be seconded.

  3. i feel a bit sorry for him as I know what it is like to work for an impossible “boss”, and I know the feeling of wanting to resort to things you might not normally do to change the situation. The key, I guess, is not doing it.

The notion of more years of RHJ is unfathomable.
