POLITICS – Kamloops’ two MLAs ready to go after being sworn in to office

Kamloops Centre MLA Peter Milobar accepts congratulations from Conservative BC leader John Rustad.

Kamloops now officially has its MLAs for the coming Legislative session. Conservatives Peter Milobar of Kamloops Centre and Ward Stamer of Kamloops-North Thompson were among 44 members of their party to take the Oath of Office on Tuesday evening (Nov. 12, 2024).

They were among the second batch of MLAs to be sworn in. The two Green Party reps went first, and the 47 NDP members were scheduled for swearing in today (Nov. 13, 2024).

Thirty-six of the Conservatives are brand new. Milobar is among only eight with previous experience. Twenty-nine of the New Democrats are returning members, while 18 are new.

Premier David Eby’s new cabinet, which he hasn’t announced yet, will be sworn in Nov. 18.

The MLAs now head into orientation sessions to learn their jobs before the first sitting of the Legislature. Milobar begins his third term in office while Stamer is a rookie.

Kamloops-North Thompson MLA Ward Stamer signs his papers in the Legislature.
