POLICE – Highway re-opened after an hour-long closure during arrests

A portion of Highway 5A was closed in both directions this afternoon (Oct. 23, 2024) as part of a police investigation.

Just before 2 p.m., Kamloops RCMP advised the public of a Highway 5A closure in both directions between Hugh Allan and Aberdeen Drive. A large police presence was visible in the area, which included the Southeast District Emergency Response Team (SED ERT).

“Due to the proximity of the highway in relation to the residence on Carmel Court where police were present, traffic was temporarily rerouted out of an abundance of caution,” said Cpl. Crystal Evelyn.

“The highway was reopened about an hour later, following the arrest of three people who are known to police.”

“As part of the ongoing investigation, a residence of interest was identified and the assistance of the SED ERT was requested by the Kamloops RCMP Detachment, due to the violence and weapons involved in the initial report,” said Evelyn.

Assistance from numerous units was provided, including the Police Dog Service, Investigative Services units, frontline officers, Forensic Identification Services, and SED ERT.

Anyone with information that may be related is asked to contact the Kamloops RCMP Detachment at 250-828-3000.
