A brief hold-and-secure order has been lifted from Valleyview Secondary School, following a police response to a possible weapons report in the area.

Around 11:35 a.m. today (Oct. 3, 2024), Kamloops RCMP officers were called to the area of Valleyview Drive and Oriole Road, where a person was seen in possession of what appeared to be a weapon.

“Police recommended the hold-and-secure to School District 73 due to the presence of a potential threat in the area at the time,” said Cpl. Dana Napier.

Two youths were apprehended shortly after as part of the investigation but were later released to their parents.

Two replica handguns were located near the school. No one was injured.

The Kamloops RCMP detachment is working with its school partners as part of the ongoing investigation.

Anyone with information that may be related is asked to contact the Kamloops RCMP Detachment at 250-828-3000 and reference file 2024-32983.
