LETTER – Possibility of rebuilding the Red Bridge brings some new hope

Re: ROTHENBURGER – Red Bridge could rise from the ashes, literally – here’s how
Good morning!
I simply want to start off my email to you saying, thank you!
Just when it seemed there was no one to bring our city together anymore and the demise of our beloved Red Bridge was being tossed in the new generation’s ‘who cares’ bin, you came through once more with words soothing the soul and bringing us an option to think on, re-creating our bridge with old and new, what a great thing!
Yes, I’m sure we all have our memories of our landmark that takes us back to another time and place, but for me, I first came here on summer holidays from Ontario , driving north to see relatives who owned Halamore Lake Resort in Clearwater.
My first thoughts heading north that day were equal to first ride on a roller coaster, crossing the river on a one-lane old bridge, high up praying we’d make the other side!
I returned in 1972 as a young bride, and purchased Halamore living there for many years so back and forth into Kamloops always took us over the bridge.
We have returned four times over these years, to live, and just recently in July for our last move, Kamloops has always brought us back, and sharing stories with our grandchildren on the Red Bridge and taking them over it.
Our city has changed so much now, there is no longer leadership at City Hall, no mayor really to bring us scattered citizens back and give us hope that not all is lost.
You did that, thank you for your article on rebuilding our bridge, continue to keep us updated, and be our rock.
Kind regards,
KATHIE CONKIN
Something wild happened at the council meeting today. Bill Sarai and his Anti-democratic action has just asked to remove public enquires entirely from council meetings.

Agreed ! Serai is acting against anything democratic. We need a new council this time .

Thank you Kathie for your contribution. But Kamloops does have a Mayor.
Mayor Bepple-Karpuk-Middleton-Sarai-Neustaeter-Hall-O’Reilly-Bass is our duly elected Mayor.
It represents us, the citizens, through a democratic process (democracy in action). It travels to Kamloops to attend to emergencies, and it also attends UBCM at the same time.
