Kamloops property owners have one more week to pay their property taxes before a provincially mandated 10 per cent penalty for late payment is applied on July 3, 2024.

Starting today (June 24, 2024), City Hall will be open for extended hours, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., to accommodate in-person tax payments. The City said in a news release that those who choose to visit City Hall should plan ahead and know the detour and parking options, which are outlined on the City’s engagement website at LetsTalk.Kamloops.ca/CapitalProjects/CityCentre.

There are several ways to pay property taxes, including paying online with Visa or Mastercard, using online banking, paying by mail, drop box, or in person at the Tournament Capital Centre (8:30 a..m to 3:30 p.m., Monday to Friday). A full list of payment locations and hours is available at Kamloops.ca/PropertyTax. Online payments can be made at Kamloops.ca/Payment.

Credit card payments for taxes and utilities are subject to a non-refundable 1.75 per cent  service fee. Both City Hall and the Tournament Capital Centre will be closed on Monday, July 1, for the Canada Day holiday.

Home Owner Grant applications are also due July 2 and must be applied for separately through the provincial government. To apply for a Home Owner Grant, visit Gov.BC.ca/HomeOwnerGrant or call 1-888-355-2700.

Residents experiencing financial difficulties this year should note that Home Owner Grants can be applied for without making a tax payment, reducing the tax balance owing. Partial payments before the due date will also reduce the penalty incurred. Residents experiencing difficulties are encouraged to look into the BC Property Tax Deferment Program for additional support.

To sign up for e-billing for 2025 property taxes, residents can register and add their property tax account at Kamloops.ca/MyCity. Residents can also sign up for the Tax Installment Plan Service, which will break their 2024 property tax estimate into smaller monthly payments that will be automatically withdrawn from their bank accounts. Application forms are available online at Kamloops.ca/TIPS.
