MILOBAR – NDP’s soft-on-crime policies to blame for increase in gang violence

ACROSS BRITISH COLUMBIA, communities are facing an unprecedented crisis of gang violence that the NDP government seems unwilling to address.

MLA Peter Milobar.

In Kamloops, we’ve witnessed a terrifying escalation. Five brazen shootings occurred within just four days. Despite the best efforts of our dedicated RCMP officers, who are doing everything within their power, the lack of sufficient government support continues to hamper their ability to combat this surge in violence effectively.

The situation has grown so severe that RCMP warnings now caution about bullets flying indiscriminately, affecting every neighbourhood from the South Shore to the North Shore.

It’s a dire situation when parents in British Columbia are too frightened to let their children play outside, worrying that their streets aren’t safe. This is the grim reality of a province where the NDP’s soft-on-crime policies have allowed criminal elements to take control.

These communities, which once felt secure, are now scenes of chaos, making residents feel abandoned as the NDP continues to churn out ineffective announcements that do nothing to mitigate the dangers.

David Eby once promised that British Columbians would feel safe in their communities. Yet, under his government, we’ve seen an alarming increase in unchecked violence and continuous criminal activity.

Kamloops is now under siege not only from gang violence but also from an endless wave of break-ins and property crimes. Residents pushed to the brink, have been forced to establish community patrols out of sheer necessity — a clear sign of a government failing its fundamental duty to protect its citizens.

The NDP’s half-baked solutions have only exacerbated the problem, with their catch-and-release approach emboldening criminals who now commit crimes, knowing the consequences they face are minimal.

As Attorney General for five years, and now Premier, David Eby’s soft-on-crime policies prioritized the rights of repeat violent offenders over the safety of law-abiding British Columbians.

BC United is prepared to confront this crisis head-on.

Our ‘Safer B.C.’ plan will do more than just promise safety — it will deliver it by filling police vacancies, empowering local law enforcement, and ensuring that every crime, from shoplifting to gang violence, is met with appropriate consequences. We will also work tirelessly to rebuild community trust and ensure residents across the province feel secure in their neighbourhoods.

British Columbians deserve a government that stands up for their safety, not one that retreats in the face of danger. They deserve a government that protects them, not one that leaves them to fend for themselves amid a surge of gang violence.

With BC United, safety won’t just be an empty government announcement — it will be a reality.

We are committed to making British Columbia a safe place for every citizen, restoring peace and security to B.C.’s streets, and rebuilding the trust that has been shattered by the NDP’s negligence.

Peter Milobar was elected MLA for Kamloops-North Thompson in May 2017, and re-elected in October 2020. He is the Official Opposition Critic for Finance. He previously served as critic for Indigenous Relations and Reconciliation, critic for Environment and Climate Change Strategy, and the Official Opposition House Leader.

Health Canada just saved Toronto from its own wacko progressives, who even after seeing the train wreck in BC, insisted on pursuing decriminalization.

Rational citizens of Toronto still face a fight against existing opium dens, but they may avoid going deeper into chaos, thanks to a new found spirit of common sense by Health Canada.

Decrim is well and truly finished. But we still have a long way to go in restoring our communities, including the fight against the organized crime and infrastructure that grew to serve the customers of decrim.

The Liberals who just crossed the floor and became something else presently BC United.  I mean jumping ship and over time casting off values and integrity which a long time ago was a Liberal mainstay in BC is a statement in itself about the disarray in the opposition benches.

The “leader” who took the Liberals over the cliff showed just how committed the party is to its core values, and now we have what is left over grabbing at straws not to drown.

Your new party says anything just to stay in power and not much else. Your previous leader went down hard for the same reason and took all of you with her and in the end did not care an iota about you or the legacy that she left you.

Do the province a favor, first be honest with yourself and with us, avoid the vitriol, don’t treat us as idiots, identify the real reasons for the social breakdown that is spilling into our streets as that is the only way we can stop it.

In many cases the social breakdown that is spilling into our streets, is caused by the rot in every ministry that once you piloted where we get just more of the same under the present government. Help us get a look at what this cabal in the ministries have been up to with our public wealth with minimum results as they band aid over their destructive policies. Every single ministry must be reformed. Look at the “Legal Professions Regulatory Modernization plan” , a good start which must be expanded to include every ministry including the one that deals with decriminalization.

Mr. Milobar and Mr. Stone both of you came from solid families who are an example to all of us. Use that example of hard work and honesty as you were deputed by the people to get redress for their grievances The fact that you chose to point fingers at Eby to show your opinion of the sorry state of BC politics is abuse of reason when we ignore the flaws in our own policies

For a moment I thought I was reading a summary of your term as mayor when the Crackshack of Westmount was in full swing!
