POLICE – Suspicious vehicle investigation leads to weapons charges

A Kamloops man is facing seven charges related to weapons and firearms offences, as well as possession of property obtained by crime, following an investigation Thursday.

On Thursday, May 9, 2024, around 1:25 a.m. Kamloops RCMP were conducting patrols on Kokanee Way when they saw a vehicle parked in a suspicious manner, missing its front license plate. Police queries confirmed it had been reported stolen.

“As part of the investigation, officers located weapons including a restricted firearm, ammunition, bear spray, and a switchblade knife,” said Cpl. Crystal Evelyn.

“A man and a woman were taken into custody and held for court – the woman for an unendorsed arrest warrant; the man for the new offences.”

Cameron Jewett, 21, of Kamloops, is charged with possession of property knowing that it was obtained by crime; weapons for a dangerous purpose; a concealed weapon, prohibited device, or ammunition; a concealed weapon, prohibited device, or ammunition without a licence (two counts); a prohibited or restricted firearm without a license or registration; and a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm without a license or registration.

He was held for a bail hearing, during which he was remanded until his next court appearance scheduled for May 14, 2024.

Anyone with information related to this investigation is asked to contact the Kamloops RCMP Detachment at 250-828-3000 and reference file 2024-13671.
