POLICE – Fake firearm found after RCMP called to Columbia Street motel

One man has been arrested following a weapons complaint that caused a brief roadway closure on Wednesday evening.

Just before 7 p.m. on Wednesday April 10, 2024, officers from the Kamloops RCMP Detachment were called to a motel on the 500-block of Columbia Street West for a report that a man was in possession of a firearm.

Columbia Street West vehicle and pedestrian traffic was interrupted for a brief period while the incident was unfolding.

“Officers from the Southeast District Emergency Response Team along with the Police Dog Service assisted frontline officers in containing the area and safely taking the man into custody,” said Staff Sgt. Janelle Shoihet.

“An imitation firearm was recovered in a subsequent search of the scene.”

The 47-year-old Kamloops man has been released from police custody, pending the outcome of the investigation.

Anyone with information about this incident that has not already spoken with police is encouraged to contact the Kamloops RCMP Detachment at 250-828-3000 and cite file 2024-10409.
