Human remains found last month near the Mission Flats landfill have been identified as those of a man who was reported missing to police in May 2020.

Police did not confirm today (March 5, 2024) whether the man was Jason Redhead but did say their investigation, including consultation with the BC Coroners Service, identified the remains as belonging to a 41-year-old man who was last seen on Feb. 19, 2020 and reported missing in May 2020. Redhead was last seen Feb. 19, 2020, and was reported missing in May 2020.

RCMP issued a media release in June of that year asking for the public’s assistance in finding Redhead.

Skeletal remains were found on the afternoon of Sunday, Feb. 25, 2024 near the landfill. No criminality is suspected in the man’s death or disappearance, police say.

“A media release was issued by the Kamloops RCMP Detachment requesting public assistance in June of 2020, after police were notified of his disappearance and other efforts to locate him had been exhausted,” said Cpl. Crystal Evelyn.

“We hope that his discovery brings some small amount of closure to those who have looked for him.”

She said his family has been notified.
